Resident Parking in Rotterdam
If you live in Rotterdam and own a car, you may be eligible for a resident parking permit. This guide explains how resident parking works, how to apply for a permit, how visitor parking works and where to park if you do not have a permit.
How does resident parking work in Rotterdam?
In paid parking areas, parking is linked to your licence plate number rather than a paper ticket or parking card. You can register your vehicle through:
- A resident parking permit
- A parking app
- A parking meter
Because parking is linked to your licence plate, you do not need to display a ticket or permit in your vehicle. Parking enforcement officers can check whether your parking is valid by scanning your licence plate number.
Resident parking permits
If you are registered as a resident of Rotterdam and own a car, you can apply for a resident parking permit for the area where you live.
How much does a resident parking permit cost?
A resident parking permit costs €8.20 per month. The permit is linked to your licence plate number, so you will not receive a physical permit to display in your vehicle.
Where is my permit valid?
Rotterdam is divided into parking sectors. You can only apply for a parking permit for the sector in which you live. Your sector will be explained when your permit application has been approved. View Rotterdam parking sectors.
How do I manage my permit?
Once your application has been approved, you will receive a unique number and password for the municipality's parking permit website. The website allows you to manage your permit online. Go to parking permit portal (in Dutch).
Visitor parking (bezoekersparkeren)
Reduced parking rate for your visitors
Yes. Residents can apply for a visitor parking permit, which allows visitors to park in their neighbourhood at a reduced rate. Once your visitor parking permit has been approved, you can register your visitor's licence plate through the parking permit website.
How much does visitor parking cost?
Residents who use visitor parking receive 3,000 parking units per calendar year.
- 1 unit = 10 minutes
- 3,000 units = 500 hours of parking
- Cost: €0.11 per 10 minutes
The parking costs are collected quarterly from your bank account.
There is no monthly fee. You only pay for the parking time that is actually used.
