When you arrive in the city, we would advise you to deliberately get lost in the different neighbourhoods and go exploring. Rotterdam is a safe city and you can explore it alone. There are many lovely streets and areas away from the tram lines, which are most easily accessed on foot. During your time exploring, make sure you look at how well an area is serviced – by transport, by shops, schools etc. – as well as the types of housing available (tower blocks, rowhouses divided into flats, single-family dwellings, etc.). When you see a road you really like, note it down. A quick search online will then give you the postalcode of the area. This is important when narrowing down your search for a place.
