Registration BSN or registration BSN & IND
Thank you for scheduling an appointment with the Rotterdam International Center for registration in the Municiple Records Database (BRP) in order to get your BSN.
You will need to prepare some documentation prior to your appointment in order for the appointment to succeed. You can find more information on the documents you need to bring depending on your situation below:
Required documents for the IND appointment
- Valid passport
- In case of an extension bring your old residence card
Required documents for registration in the Municipal Records Database (first registration)
Please bring the following documents to your appointment:
- Valid passport or national ID card
- Residence permit or proof of application (non-EU citizens)
- Completed First Registration Form (PDF)1
- Proof of address2
- Original birth certificate in Dutch or English, legalised or with apostille (this may also be submitted up to 6 months after the appointment). Find more information here

You may also need to bring:
- Residence permit or proof of application (non-EU citizens)
- Housing permit (for certain addresses in Rotterdam)
- Marriage certificate and/or Divorce decree, legalised or with apostille (this may also be submitted up to 6 months after the appointment). Find more information here
1 The First Registration Form must be completed by each person registering. Please complete the Rotterdam First Registration Form before your appointment.
2 Accepted proof of address depends on your housing situation:
If you rent a property:
- A rental contract or a completed and signed Tenancy Agreement (PDF) from the landlord.
If you are registering at someone else's address:
- A completed and signed Declaration by Main Occupant form (PDF).
- A copy of the owner's passport or ID card.
- The Tenancy Agreement (PDF) (verhuurdersverklaring) of the owner with your name included.
- If the person giving permission does not live at the address, proof of ownership is also required.
If you stay in a hotel (hostel or Airbnb):
- A signed and stamped permission statement from the hotel manager confirming that you are allowed to register at the address. A reservation confirmation is not sufficient.
! Please note that rental contracts or tenancy agreements with future start dates or older than three months will not be accepted.
A housing permit (HVV) may be required for certain addresses in Rotterdam. Check whether your address is located in a permit area here. This check applies to the main tenant and all household members aged 16 and older.
If all required documents are submitted, the application is usually reviewed within five weeks. Missing documents or additional investigation may cause delays.
