Who can vote?

If you are an international living in the Netherlands, you may be eligible to vote in these local elections. The rules are:

  • EU citizens: you can vote if you are registered as a resident in your municipality.
  • Non-EU citizens: you can vote if you have legally lived in the Netherlands for at least five consecutive years and are registered in your municipality.
  • Tourists or short-term visitors: not eligible to vote. (RNI registrations are also not eligible to vote)

You do not need Dutch nationality for these elections, but you must be officially registered at your local city hall.
