Climate tech innovator CoeusAI sets up European HQ in Rotterdam
Canadian climate tech innovator CoeusAI has set up its European headquarters in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, establishing the city as the central hub for its European operations and launchpad for wider global growth.
CoeusAI, part of the Marsland Institute group, develops advanced artificial intelligence to identify optimal onshore and offshore locations for renewable energy projects (wind and solar). Their platform analyses site suitability, financial and demand projections, regulatory risks, and grid integration issues, helping companies reduce development uncertainty and accelerate the rollout of wind and solar projects. By speeding up deployment, CoeusAI contributes directly to global decarbonisation efforts and aims to make clean energy expansion not only feasible, but inevitable.
“Our ambitions extend beyond commercial growth. At our core, CoeusAI is committed to tech for good and AI for good. We believe artificial intelligence should be a force for positive change, and we're leveraging it to address one of humanity's most pressing challenges: climate change.” explains Vincent Marsland, Co-Founder & CEO - Marsland Institute B.V.

Strategic hub for renewable energy innovation
Rotterdam’s position at the forefront of Europe’s renewable energy transition was critical to the company’s decision. The Netherlands’ strong focus on offshore wind, combined with Rotterdam’s maritime infrastructure and direct access to the North Sea, created an environment where CoeusAI could test, improve, and scale its technology. “Rotterdam’s role as one of the world’s leading port cities, combined with its proximity to the North Sea, places us at the centre of maritime activity, offshore energy projects, and sustainability initiatives,” states Vincent.

Proximity to key European markets
This strategic location also supports efficient access to major European markets including the UK, France, and the Benelux region, an advantage consistently highlighted by international companies investing in the Rotterdam region. The city offers strong connectivity, excellent market access, and a collaborative international ecosystem where companies work across sectors on challenges such as energy transition and digitalisation.

Thriving ecosystem, enabling innovation at speed
Rotterdam’s innovation ecosystem proved decisive for CoeusAI. Within months of setting up operations, the team had integrated into a network of R&D institutions, global energy firms, and sustainability-focused partners. The company joined the North Sea Energy research programme, a major multistakeholder initiative focused on energy systems integration across offshore wind, hydrogen, and CCS. CoeusAI’s platform contributes AIdriven insights that predict maintenance needs, optimise production schedules, and identify efficiency gains across offshore operations.
This collaboration also represents an important milestone in the Canada–Europe innovation corridor, with CoeusAI acting as a bridge for transatlantic knowledge transfer between its Canadian origins and its Dutch headquarters, bringing together diverse perspectives on energy challenges from offshore wind development on Canada's Atlantic coast to the North Sea's established energy infrastructure.
Support that speeds landing and integration
At several stages in their journey CoeusAI received support from the NFIA branch in Toronto Canada, as well as support from regional partners in the Netherlands. From the earliest interaction, when InnovationQuarter and the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) connected with the founders in Canada, the company experienced proactive guidance. As Vincent explains: “Since then, Rotterdam Partners, InnovationQuarter and NFIA have been highly proactive in supporting our growth. They’ve made strategic introductions to local founders and ecosystem partners, helped us build visibility in the market, and accelerated our integration into the Dutch innovation landscape. We were also present at the 2025 edition of Rotterdam Partners’ Red Carpet Dinner event, which was very helpful in contacting other international players in the local ecosystem.”
CoeusAI was subsequently invited to join the Dutch delegation at the Bluetech Ocean Forum in Portugal, enabling the company to present its technology on an international stage, an opportunity that “opened doors that would have taken us years to access independently.”
This type of structured, personalised support is one of Rotterdam’s key advantages for international companies seeking a smooth landing and rapid ecosystem integration.

“Rotterdam Partners, InnovationQuarter and NFIA have been highly proactive in supporting our growth. They’ve made strategic introductions to local founders and ecosystem partners, helped us build visibility in the market, and accelerated our integration into the Dutch innovation landscape.”
Quality of life supports business growth
While commercial rationale led CoeusAI to Rotterdam, quality of life also played an important role. The founders’ families were involved in evaluating the city, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, from schools and neighbourhood support to international accessibility. “The high proficiency in English for business has also eased our transition significantly… Rotterdam checked every box, both professionally and personally,” Vincent shares.

For a company competing for international talent, Rotterdam’s multicultural environment, strong research institutions, and family-friendly setting provided stability and continuity during relocation. CoeusAI’s team members have already started learning Dutch, reinforcing their long-term commitment to the region.

Collaborating to shape the future of renewable energy
Rotterdam’s density of highvalue partners, from offshore wind operators to research centres, has enabled CoeusAI to test its models using realworld data, speeding up development cycles. The team is already preparing formal announcements of new R&D collaborations and partnerships with global energy companies. “The density of high-value partners and potential customers in the region has been exceptional,” says Vincent. “Rotterdam has connected us with leading R&D organisations and global energy firms.”
This environment aligns with the company’s ambition to use artificial intelligence not only to optimise renewableenergy planning, but also to contribute positively to society by accelerating climate mitigation at scale.
Why Rotterdam fits climatetech ambitions
From CoeusAI’s perspective, Rotterdam offers a strategic combination of factors that few cities can replicate:
Unmatched international market access, with close proximity to major European economies.
A world-leading energy and maritime cluster, providing direct access to offshore projects and partners.
A collaborative, highly innovative ecosystem where government, research institutions, and industry work together.
Strong English proficiency and an international talent pool, easing relocation and operational scaling.
These advantages support both commercial growth and mission-driven innovation—an essential combination for companies working at the intersection of AI, sustainability, and energy transition

Headquarters built for impact
For CoeusAI, Rotterdam is more than a European base; it is the centre of a long-term strategy focused on advancing renewableenergy deployment worldwide. By embedding itself in Rotterdam's deep energy and innovation ecosystem, the company has gained the partnerships, data access, and market presence needed to scale more rapidly. In doing so, CoeusAI contributes to the city’s leadership in energy transition and digital innovation, helping shape the future of sustainable infrastructure across Europe and beyond.
