Sleeping in a former prison cell may not sound appealing at first, but Penthouse Prison will change your mind. This unique hotel near Eendrachtsplein is built inside the cells of an old police station.

Four of the six cells have been converted into hotel rooms, keeping their original character, including handwritten messages on the walls. Comfort has been added with good beds and warm interiors. The stainless-steel toilets now serve as plant holders.

On the ground floor, you will find the grand café of Heilige Boontjes, a social project that helps young people return to the labour market through training and work experience.

Staying on a Wikkelboat almost makes you forget about sleep. These sustainable tiny houses, built from recycled cardboard, float in the Wijnhaven and Rijnhaven. From your cosy cocoon, you look out at Rotterdam’s skyline.
