Hotel Neutraal: collective efforts towards a sustainable, climate neutral future
Taking steps towards a cleaner, more sustainable and better future together. This is the basis behind project Hotel Neutraal, an initiative of sixteen Rotterdam hotels, Rotterdam Partners, BlueCity, Municipality of Rotterdam and Green Leisure Group to make the hotel business more sustainable.
Collaborating, finding new ways, experimenting and sharing knowledge are all part of Rotterdam’s DNA. Under the label Hotel Neutraal, this is exactly what a growing group of Rotterdam hotel entrepreneurs have been doing since 2022. Together they have taken concrete steps in the field of energy and water savings, reducing waste flows, stopping the use single-use plastics and disposable packaging, emission reduction, circular entrepreneurship and overall a greener and better Rotterdam. The Hotel Neutraal project officially ends in the Summer of 2025, but the efforts of the participating hotels will have lasting impact on their operations and on sustainability of the hospitality sector in Rotterdam as a whole.
From baseline measurements to step-by-step action plans
Through Hotel Neutraal, baseline measurements were carried out at participating hotels, providing insight into where the hotels are located and what their possible sustainable quick-wins were. The hotels then worked under guidance and on the basis of a step-by-step plan to achieve the sustainable goals. Ambitions, knowledge and best practices were continuously shared through knowledge sessions and workshops.
