IENS Independent Index, the democratic and independent restaurant site of The Netherlands monthly gives good and original restaurant reviews for Rotterdam. This month it’s time to enjoy the weather and go outside! That’s why IENS has compiled for you a list of restaurants located in the woods or in parks. Brasserie de Schone Lei
Eat outdoors waterside, on courtyard, on terrace romantic, quiet conversation, child friendly, dogs allowed Sunday brunch, children's menu, high tea, tapas/mezze bar, covered terrace, groups max. 150, private dining max. 40 accessible by boat, free parking, avg. price 3 courses à la carte € 25,00, minimum fixed menu price € 25,00 house wine per bottle/glass € 13,50 / 2,70 Its location on the northern side of the Kralingse Plas gives this terrace an amazing view that reaches as far as the towers of the 'Manhatten on the Maas'. That's reason in itself enough to go to De Schone Lei. 'But arriving via a drive through the park is unique in Rotterdam, as is easy and free parking'. The service, however, is of a poor standard. Students with part-time jobs remain amateurs. 'The food is not bad, but also not that exciting'. Plaszoom 500, Rotterdam

Kitchen open noon-9.30pm, Sat-Sun from 11.00am Click here for more information Minang Kabau Baru Eat outdoors waterside, on terrace romantic, business, quiet conversation, child friendly, children's menu, covered terrace, groups max. 150, private dining max. 150 take-away, catering accessible by boat, free parking, avg. price 3 courses à la carte € 25,00, minimum fixed menu price € 17,00 'The interior of Minang Kabau Baru can be described as non-descript – somewhere between modern European and Indonesian.' The location, on the other hand, is fantastic with a place right on the lake and a view of Rotterdam's skyline. 'The type of clientele varies from families to estate agents, and from those in suits to those sporting shorts.' The food has been altered perfectly to suit the Dutch pallet. 'It’s not terribly spicy and the menu offers a nice variety of tastes'. The portions are also well sized. The wait staff does their best to help you enjoy yourselves with 'attentive gestures like the hot towel for freshening up'. Plaszoom 500, Rotterdam

Kitchen open noon-10.00pm, Oct-March closed on Mondays Click here for more information Parkzicht Eat outdoors on terrace, in garden, child friendly, children's menu, high tea, bar, wheelchair access, covered terrace, groups max. 250, private dining max. 100 free parking, avg. price 3 courses à la carte, € 20,00, house wine per bottle/glass € 13,75 / 2,50 Because of its 'perfect location' and 'view of the green park' a visit to Parkzicht 'is a real treat'. Since its renovations the restaurant looks 'great'. Unfortunately Parkzicht suffers from beach café syndrome – it's only busy when the weather is good. Despite the rush, the 'very enthusiastic', but 'inexperienced wait staff' knows how to 'offer service with a smile'. And although the chef is able to make a béarnaise sauce unlike that of many other cooks, the food is 'pretty simple' and the 'limited' menu has not changed in 1 and a half years. However, the menu 'does take into account the needs of vegetarians'. A 'fantastic place to relax and get a break from the regular stress of life!' Kievitslaan 25, Rotterdam
