Attractions

Climb the sky, look living sharks in the eye or enjoy the peace and quiet of nature: Rotterdam offers entertainment for everyone, at all times. Top attractions like Diergaarde Blijdorp (Rotterdam Zoo), Spido and of course the Euromast guarantee lots of fun for young and old, all day long.

Rotterdam means adventure
In Blijdorp Zoo, you can spend hours wandering among all kinds of (dangerous) animals. The zoo’s Oceanium has a massive indoor aquarium, with a tunnel that runs below the sharks. During a Spido harbour tour, you find yourself face to face with enormous ships in the port of Rotterdam. If you prefer to take a dip in the Maas, without getting wet, then get on board the Splashtours amphibious bus (from April 2009).

Rotterdam explores
The famous steamship ‘Rotterdam’, the largest passenger ship ever built in the Netherlands, will open to the public in the course of 2009. Go and explore on board and dream of days gone by. The Kijk-Kubus (Museum House) is located in a forest of cube houses in Blaakse Bos. There you can experience what it is like to live between sloping walls. You can experience the city by push scooter or sturdy bike during a tour with AroundTown CityEvents. Arboretum Trompenburg is an oasis of calm, the ideal place to get to know (the names of) trees and plants. Or go exploring in Hoek van Holland, with its extensive dunes, flood barrier and all kinds of fun museums, such as the 100 year-old fort. You can undergo the sheer size of the port of Rotterdam with Rotterdam Port Experience, an interactive introduction to Europe’s biggest port.

Rotterdam from the air
From the platforms of the Euromast the views across the city and harbour are truly spectacular. If you manage to keep your vertigo under control and step into the rotating lift, you will reach the very top of this striking, 185-metre high tower. And in the summer months, the real daredevils among you can abseil or zipline from the top of the tower to the bottom. After viewing the Laurenskerk, hardy visitors will naturally go on to climb its 300 steps. For those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, there is the Flag Museum on Boompjes: here 230 flags flutter in the breeze, and they are illuminated at night to create a magical atmosphere.

Rotterdam has fun
The smallest visitors can climb, explore and let off steam
in countless attractions in Rotterdam. In Plaswijckpark the cableway, the climbing mountain and the new port playground will guarantee hours of fun. Children who like sports can visit the largest outdoor Skatepark in Europe on Westblaak, and curious children can explore the Ontdekhoek (Discovery Corner). Anyone who loves trains will have plenty to feast their eyes on at Railz Miniworld, the biggest indoor model railway in the Netherlands.
