Shopping

Rotterdam has a diversity of shopping districts. From exclusive to popular, from megastore to small boutique, in an arcade or a bustling street; Rotterdam has it all.

Rotterdam Is Compact
On Lijnbaan and Beurstraverse, better known as ‘de Koopgoot’, well-known department stores and shops selling all the big brand names are just a stone’s throw from each other. Discover the luxury items of the Bijenkorf, or explore the eleven floors of Selexyz Donner, the largest bookshop in the Netherlands. Large indoor malls can be found just outside the city centre. At Shopping Centre Zuidplein and in shopping area Alexandrium you will find over a hundred fashion, home decorating and lifestyle stores.

Rotterdam Has Class
In the area around Van Oldenbarneveltstraat, Karel Doormanstraat and Kruiskade you can shop in style. Stores such as Van Dijk, Mostert & Van Leeuwen, SHPPR and Roush offer an exclusive collection of high-quality foreign labels. In Witte de Withstraat, lingerie queen Marlies Dekkers presents her beautiful and spicy lingerie. In Hartmansstraat, you can find Klein Beginnen (Start Small), which stocks baby and children’s clothes. Next door is Grooot (Biig), for kids from two to twelve. At Nieuwe Ontwerpers on William Boothlaan, they stock clothes by young, talented Rotterdam designers.

Rotterdam Is Cutting Edge
On and around Meent, more and more hip stores with streetwise collections are springing up, such as Shopper, Lijfstijl, M and Gorilli Store. If you like original, unique and/ or customized clothing, then this is the place to be. It is not for nothing therefore that American Apparel has opened a branch for its colourful jersey products in this young, lively street. Nieuwemarkt, around Pannekoekstraat, has also become a hotspot on the way up within just a few years, with a variety of fun clothing and home furnishing stores.

Rotterdam Surprises
Nowhere is there such a varied range of shops as on Oude and Nieuwe Binnenweg. Quality brand stores such as Sissy Boy, G-Sus and Cora Kemperman fit perfectly in the streetscape of Oude Binnenweg, with its beautiful, old buildings. It is also home to the bookstore V/h van Gennep, which specialises in art and poetry books. The more modern Nieuwe Binnenweg has numerous music stores selling the coolest beats, but also a wide variety of unique stores. Sirene, for example, a clothes store with elegant, contemporary clothing and accessories for self-aware women who know what they want.

Rotterdam Is Nostalgic
Delfshaven is known for its antique and bric-a-brac shops. At Manet you can find porcelain, silver and cutlery: everything for the stylish dining table. A little further along you will find Casa Interior, an inspiring shop full of antiques and old designer furniture. The Maritieme Kunst en Antiekhandel is located in the former Henkes gin distillery. Petri Voet not only designs and makes colourful works of art but also everyday ceramics, such as vases and dishes. They are all for sale at her studio in Delfshaven. African Art specialises in African sculptures, masks, fabrics and implements.
